DAVIDsTEA Advent Calendar 2014 – Day 7

I actually had this one earlier in the day so I wouldn’t get super wired and not be able to sleep again. I’ve definitely learned that higher levels of caffeine is not a good idea after 5pm for me!

Anyway, let’s take a look at Day 7!

English Breakfast!

Ingredients: Sri Lankan black tea.

You really can’t mess around with something as classy and simple as some pekoe black tea leaves from Sri Lanka.

It ends up being a nice darker reddish brown that actually doesn’t get too dark even while oversteeping by a few minutes. From my experience, black teas tend to get really, really dark but this one stays relatively light.

DAVIDsTEA’s version of English Breakfast has some subtle notes of fruit on the nose, but not a lot of smokiness that I associate black teas with. It tastes pretty similar to how it smells, too! It’s quite mild in flavour for a black tea, but it has the characteristic astringency that’s a lot stronger than greens or whites.

I’m still a little behind on my calendar! Bear with me, but at least there’s multiple posts, huh? 😉

DAVIDsTEA Advent Calendar 2014 – Day 2

Let’s take a look at Day 2 of the Advent Calendar! It’s…

Organic Vanilla Chai!

David's Tea Organic Vanilla Chai

Ingredients: Organic: Cinnamon, black tea, licorice root, ginger, vanilla. With natural vanilla and cream flavouring.

It smells so good when it starts steeping! The cinnamon really comes out at first with a hint of the licorice root, which creates a lovely spicey, warm scent. DAVIDsTEA also lists this as having medium levels of caffeine.

I’m actually not too fond of the vanilla and cream flavour being paired up with a spiced black tea. I know it’s supposed to help balance out the flavours, especially with the astringency, but I find that it doesn’t really contribute anything significant to the overall profile.

Of course, I’m a bit of a purist when it comes to tea. I hardly ever add anything like milk, lemon or sugar, so that may be why it’s a slight miss for me!

Otherwise, the tea is really fantastic for warming up on a cold day. It’s not snowing like yesterday, but it’s still pretty damn cold and this organic vanilla chai is helping me stay warm and cozy at work!

Could this be a double posting day? Possibly…
